Charlotte County may raise water and sewer bills by about $4 a month starting next spring. Many residents worry they already can’t afford the cost of living, especially after a small rate increase in October. County leaders say the new increase is needed because of growth, aging infrastructure, and stricter regulations.
Some homeowners understand the costs, while others feel residents are paying too much and developers aren’t sharing enough of the burden. New septic-to-sewer connections would also become more expensive, though still below the state average.
If approved, the new rates would start in March. A public hearing is set for January 13.
