Charlotte County Commissioners have agreed to revisit the Burnt Store Area Plan, originally adopted in 2005, following months of advocacy from the Burnt Store Corridor Coalition, which represents over 11,000 local residents. Key concerns include inadequate drainage, flooding, wildlife impacts, and a lack of nearby commercial amenities. While over 500,000 square feet of commercial zoning exists, low population density has stalled development. With more than 10,500 residential units approved, officials hope commercial interest will follow. The county aims to begin the formal review process in April, with a revised plan potentially taking 16–18 months to complete.
